Feeding Directions

A high-energy, highly palatable textured grain concentrate for performance horses, pleasure horses, broodmares and stallions.

  • A coarse-textured grain concentrate, often referred to as “sweet feed"
  • Food-grade vegetable oil is added to benefit texture and increase energy content
  • Fortified with essential macro-minerals, vitamins and trace minerals to support a strong skeletal system, stimulate the immune system and promote health
  • Formulated to meet and/or exceed the nutrient requirements established by the National Research Council
  • Formulated at a higher (14%) level of protein to support growth, training, showing and above maintenance activity
  • All grains used in Formax products are screened upon receipt to remove any impurities prior to use in manufacturing
  • Pellets included in Formax's textured feeds are manufactured in 1/8 inch “mini-pellet” form to reduce sorting in the feed bowl by horses
  • Only U.S. Number 2 corn is used by Formax – damaged grain or corn screenings are not permitted in the plant

Performance Horses: Feed 0.75-1.50% of their body weight per day (8-12 lbs. per day for most light horses) depending on work intensity, body condition, and quality of forage available. Adjust feed intake to maintain desirable body condition.

Mares: Barren and pregnant mares should consume 8-10 lbs. per day if a poor quality forage is being fed. If good quality forage is available feed intake can be decreased. Late pregnant mares should be fed 8–10 lbs. per day of this feed plus liberal quantities of good quality forage. LACTATING mares may be fed 8-12 lbs. per day of this feed in addition to liberal quantities of good hay and/or pasture depending on body condition and milk production. If low protein grass hay is being fed to lactating mares, we recommend PROformance 16 Supreme Textured or PROformance Power 16% pellet for the grain concentrate.

Yearlings and Two-Year Olds: To be fed at a rate of 0.75-1.50% of body weight per day. For most light horses this amounts to 8-12 lbs. per day. Horses should have feed intake adjusted up or down depending on body condition, desired growth, forage quality and availability.

Foals and Weanlings: This product is not recommended for feeding nursing foals or weanlings. We recommend the use of PROformance 16 Supreme Textured or PROformance Power 16% pellet for the grain concentrate.

Never feed moldy or insect-infested feed to horses as it may cause illness, abortion or death.
